It should be noted that, for interpretation purposes, the French text shall prevail over the English, the latter being a translation of the French original. 

GUIDE PRESCRIBING THE SCOPE OF WORK OF THE “STRUCTURAL STEEL” SPECIALTY

This guide must be used in accordance with the guidelines.

The tender must be based on architectural, structural, civil and landscaping tendering documents

  1. SS 1 - Supply and installation:
     
    1. Structural steel including joists and bridging;
       
    2. Retractable bridge rails;
       
    3. Temporary shoring of structural steel required for installation;
       
    4. Dismantling of structural steel if required for the modification or addition to the structural steel;
       
    5. Components of footbridges and/or railings designed by the structural engineer;
       
    6. Staircase components when the staircase is designed in whole (e.g., landings, stringers, stairs and other structural elements) by the structural engineer;
       
    7. Steel frames designed by the structural engineer and secured to the structural steel;
       
    8. Drilling and installation of chemical or mechanical anchoring if required for the structural steel;
       
  2. SS 2 Supply only:
     
    1. Anchors, anchor plates and other steel elements encased in concrete required to install the structural steel.
       
  3. SS 3 - Work specifically excluded:
     
    1. Staircases, railings, ladders and ladder cages other than those designed by the structural engineer;
       
    2. Grout;
       
    3. Protective coating at the base of columns;
       
    4. Dismantling work other than that mentioned in Section SS 1.4;
       
    5. Loose lintels;
       
    6. Fabricated metal not needed to erect the structural steel;
       
    7. Fabricated metal encased in concrete;
       
    8. Fabricated metal to be installed directly in the ground;
       
    9. All pre-fabricated brand name items such as, access hatches, foot grilles, railings, gutters, etc. that are not an integral part of fabricated metal;
       
    10. Final alignment and leveling of mechanically secured retractable bridge rails required for its commissioning;
       
    11. Prior certification required under the Safety Code for the construction industry (S-2.1, r.4) (concrete resistance and position of anchor bolts);
       
    12. Load-bearing and non-load-bearing metal studs;
