It should be noted that, for interpretation purposes, the French text shall prevail over the English, the latter being a translation of the French original. 

GUIDE PRESCRIBING THE SCOPE OF WORK OF THE « ROOFING » SPECIALTY

This guide must be used in accordance with the guidelines.

The tender must be based on architectural, structural and civil tendering documents.

  1. R. 1 - Supply and installation:
     
    1. Safety required for roofing work;
       
    2. Demolition of roofing required to rebuild a new roof when waterproofing must be maintained, including removal of ballast, if applicable;
       
    3. Membrane roofing such as: multi-layer bituminous, modified bitumen, EPDM, thermoplastics, hot-applied liquid rubberized bitumen, cold-applied liquid membranes (polyurethane-based, PMMA, etc.), including, where applicable, drainage panels, filter cloths and ballast;
       
    4. Artisanal sheet metal roofing other than prefabricated roofing, such as Vicwest, Ideal Revêtement, etc.;
       
    5. Roofing with asphalt shingles, slate shingles, metal shingles, concrete tiles, clay tiles, sawn shingles and wood shakes;
       
    6. Vegetated roofs;
       
    7. Roof repair and conservation treatments;
       
    8. Panel insulation integrated into the roofing system;
       
    9. Flashings and sheet metal accessories in contact with roofing materials;
       
    10. Vapour barrier under rigid roof insulation, subject to C.4.1;
       
    11. Manufactured expansion joints for roofing materials;
       
    12. Gaskets required for waterproofing of roofing work;
       
    13. Roofing accessories such as plumbing vent flashings, waterproofing sleeves (or other elements for sealing roof membrane perforations), attic ventilators, membrane walkways and sheet metal gutters.
       
  2. R. 2 – Supply only:
     
    1. Vapour barrier under roof walls and parapets.
       
  3. R. 3 – Installation only:
     
    1. Sound insulation for acoustic decking. 
       
  4. R. 4 - Work specifically excluded:
     
    1. Demolition or removal of any element placed on the roof;
       
    2. Demolition of roof walls, elevations and parapets, except where required for work under under section 1.2;
       
    3. Demolition of roofing when the demolition of the supporting decking is required, as well as the related temporary waterproofing;
       
    4. Temporary waterproofing of openings in roofing required for the work of others;
       
    5. Temporary roofing protection for the work of other specialties;
       
    6. Snow and ice removal;
       
    7. Facilities required to allow workers access to roofing work areas;
       
    8. Foundation waterproofing such as membranes, water repellents or others;
       
    9. Insulation installed directly on foundation waterproofing such as membranes, water repellents or others;
       
    10. Panel insulation for elevations and parapets covered on site with rigid concrete, wood or other panels;
       
    11. Flashings and sheet metal accessories not required to protect roofing materials such as soffits, fascia and other exterior elements;
       
    12. Carpentry, joinery and interior systems;
       
    13. Plants for vegetated roofs, unless specified in one of the sections of division 07 of the specifications.
